WASHINGTON, KOMPAS.com-Israel is ready to attack Iran's nuclear facilities even though the attack was only delayed several years producing nuclear weapons capability of Iran, said Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren.
"One, two, three, four years is a long time in the Middle East. See what happened in the past year (in terms of political changes), "said Oren in Washington, Thursday (16/8/2012).
The leaders of Israel, this month, stressed that time is running out for a diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear program that Israel consider as a threat to its existence. "Diplomacy has not worked," said Oren. "We've got to a point that is very critical where critical decisions to be made."
While Israel's leaders repeatedly have said that they will attack Iran facilities, it's now urging-urging accompanied acts of civil defense, among others, a new system that uses text messages to remind people of the missile attacks and wider distribution of gas masks.
Oren said, Iran represents the most dangerous threat in a variety of threats facing Israel, something that has never happened in 64 years of age. Arab revolution has rocked neighbouring countries, namely Syria, Egypt and the Sinai Peninsula has become a magnet for militant groups, and terrorist attacks against the citizens of Israel and property soaring around the world.
The allies of Israel, the u.s. and Europe, who do the same that Iran is getting closer to the ability to make nuclear weapons. But Iran insists its nuclear program is for commercial, civil and medical.
General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of staff, said at a press conference at the Pentagon on Tuesday that Israel's attack against Iran can only delay but cannot destroy Iran's nuclear capability. It was based on the assessment of Depsey tinjauannya over Israel armament capabilities.
But Oren said, such an assessment is irrelevant. "It, based on our experience, not an argument to oppose (attack). In the past, we operate under the assumption that we can only get delay. "
When Israel attacked a nuclear reactor in Iraq in 1981, the assumption is that "we will get a delay of between one and two years of the program. (But) to this day, Iraq did not have nuclear weapons. "
